﹝Family background﹞

I am Yi-Ping Li. Lily is my English name. On April 16, 1994, I was born to a middle-class family. Now, I am 18 years old, studying in National Tainan commercial vocational senior high school. I come from a very happy middle class family. My mother works in a Tobacco & Liquor Corporation. She always teach me how to manage my life orderly. My father died in 2002. After that, my mother took cares of me when I was young. I am not the so-called spoiled child. I do my best to show understanding for my mother’s toil. Also, I make great efforts handling everything on my own in order to let her know that I am a responsible person. I really appreciate her.

I am studying at Department of Applied Foreign Languages in National Tainan Commercial Vocational Senior High School. My school life is cheerful except for I should spend long time on waiting bus. I am glad to have so many lovely classmates to learn and experience a lot of activities together.

  I remember when I was a second grade student; school chose some people to be pickets. Because I went to school early, I was chosen to be one of the pickets. Not knowing how to do the job, I gave it a try and tried to do my best on it.  Little did I know that I would be the picket leader for the team of correct someone else’s uniforms. Some of the people often wore the wrong clothes to school. Of that, we should tell them and register them. But sometimes people’s attitude was not good. They feel nervous and speak ill of us. So we had to learn how to keep in a good mood and take a good attitude toward schoolmates.

    As a student majoring in English, I study English every day. I study not only the textbooks but also English magazines. I believe that the more I read the better reading ability and the more vocabulary I will get.  By working hard, my reading ability has improved a lot.  With my teachers’ encouragement, I took the General English Proficiency Test and passed the elementary level. After that, I took the intermediate level of GEPT. Though I didn’t pass the reading tests, I knew my English ability still left something to be desired.

I have a professional ability. It is painting. I has been practicing it almost 9 years. I always draw picture in my free time and appreciate art exhibitions. I am also interested in writing. I have won two literary awards in the junior and senior high schools since I love reading all sorts of books. Thus I hope one day I can create my own works.

 I regard that my personality is enthusiastic and amicable. I always do my best in helping people. Therefore, I participated in service activities from the hospital and the library. It was a great experience for me to give service to the society. In the hospital, when I saw the person ill and hurt, I am thankful to my parents for giving me such a healthy body..

 "I just think that life cannot be made so simply." As Rabindranath Tagore wrote, I firmly believed that life is a perpetual surprise. I am respected and open-minded to everyone. Every creature was made with dignity, and all living things had their own way to live.

﹝Future Perspectives﹞

As for my future, I plan to enter a great college with the beautiful environment, professional teachers and wonderful facilities. This is the great college I have been longing for. The Department of Foreign Language in my high school offers all kinds of English-related courses, which will help me enhance my English ability. Moreover, I have been keeping watching for information of the school from predecessors and teachers. Knowing the aspect of the school where has many resources to reach my goal. After enter this college, I have some objective wanting to achieve. First of all, I want to pass the IELTS, TOEFL and High-intermediate of GEPT. In order to prepare for that, I will study hard and make more efforts to sharpen my English, especially my English listening and speaking abilities. Second, I would also like to learn Japanese. Though I often take poor grades of Japanese in my High School life, I will spend much time studying Japanese and having a good command of it. The last but not the least is take my college life be colorful and fantastic. I really hope that I can be admitted to this university.

 In brief, I am quite sure about myself and always persisting in carrying out my plan of future. To reach my goal, I have tried my best through carefully mapping out my schedule with a hope that my life will go just as I want. This is out of the question and it may need to be adjusted to the changing circumstances though, I will hang on it!

Future Perspectives - revised

Autobiography - sample two

On November 30 1985, exactly 150 years after Mark Twain had come to the world, I was born to a middle-class family. I believed that since the person who vivified Tom Sawyer and I share the same birthday, I had somehow inherited much of the curiosity and naughtiness from him.

The similarity between the wayward novel character and I were evident even when I was just a little child. Soon after I learned how to walk, I used to play hide-and-seek with my parents in our small house. Later, as I had learned the ropes to ride a bicycle, my family finally recognized that they ought to set regulations for me, otherwise they might soon be tired of seeking me, just as Tomˇs relatives.

However, things began to change before long. After my father taught me how to read and count, I started to lead a more sedentary life. I have read or daydreamed instead of causing troubles. It seemed that education was a good way to distract a small demon.

Among the daydreams I had, the one I found it hard to forget occurred to me when I was 6 years old. On that special morning, I miraculously began wondering whether my actions and thoughts were set before I ever acted it out, just as an actor acted in accordance with a written script. Were this true, the fact that "I was thinking of whether my actions were fixed in a script" was also written in the same scenario. Therefore, my realization regarding "contemplations about what I was considering was set in a script were also written in the same scenario" was typed in the script, too. And the sequence went into infinity. After the headache arose from this discourse finally faded away, I decided to be more realistic about my daydreams.

Very soon, I had reached school age and started my education in schools. Luckily, I was admitted to the honored class, getting plenty of extracurricular courses such as monographic studies and scientific experiments with students in higher grades. And one of the experiments has decisively turned my daydreams into another direction up to now.

It is a chemistry experiment entitled "Simulating the Phenomena of Life". Following the directions, we concocted a certain electrolyte with care, and then put a grain of metal into the liquid. The instructor asked us to observe and take down all the observable changes inside the test tube. During the next hour, what amazed us were the branches and leaf-like parts growing from the granule. As the plant-like stuff grew more and more luxuriant, the whole thing bore more and more resemblance to a waterweed. Most of us even expect it to blossom and to bear fruits as we waited for the slow but steady growth.

Although our expectations continued to bloom, the instructor requested our attention and threw in a question that I find too hard to answer: "Is the thing you observed any less than a being? Justify your answer." "What a difficult question!" I exclaimed. Before I could come up with well-grounded reasons, the teacher conducted a survey of our answers. "Raise your hand if you think it is a living thing." I could see that most of my senior classmates chose this option. ¨And for those who consider the whole thing should not be viewed as an organism, please raise your hand." I raised my hand hesitatingly, wondering whether this was the correct choice or not. Maybe I was the only one who selected this choice, the teacher asked my reasons.

As Rabindranath Tagore wrote, I firmly believed that life is a perpetual surprise. Every creature was made with dignity, and all living things received their lives elegantly. After a bewildering explanation that followed, I finally realized that the stems and leaves were merely crystals of chemical compounds. Although I had guessed correctly, I began to make head or tail of what Isaac Newton had once said: "To myself I seem to have been only like a boy playing on the seashore, and diverting myself in now and then finding a smoother pebble or prettier shell than ordinary, whilst the great ocean of truth lay undiscovered before me." Studying science is like reading detective stories, and I was looking forward to be one of the detectives.

Later, I have participated not only in science fairs, but also in all kinds of academic contests, hoping to sharpen research abilities. I have won the third prize in school science fair, got a bronze medal in National Computer Science Contest for High School Students held by the Ministry of Education, and been awarded for excellence service in Computer Network Center of Chien-Kuo Senior High School. I have also been elected as an Academic Department commissioner of Information Club during my high school years, and the Minister of Academic Department of Philosophical Thinking Club in college. Moreover, I had been admitted to enter the imperial examination hall as a student representative to examine the test questions on JCEE in 2004. To me, these credits very much resemble postcards with majestic scenery photos on it. They are nothing more than encouragements deriving from some glorious past. What is really magnificent is the real scene where the photos were taken. Genuine knowledge is the scenery, and that is what I pursue.

As Jonathan the seagull put it: "The gull sees farthest who flies highest". Once I was a Huck Finn who troubled my family a lot. And now I wish I would be a Peter Pan in the field of life science and realize my dreams concerning unraveling the mystery of life. I am still on the way to the hall of knowledge, playing and wandering around the fields, just as a naughty boy would do.

  My name is Yichun Yang, I was born and raised in a ordinary family. My family moved to Sijhih, a suburban city of Taipei, and I spend most of my childhood and school years there. Now I am a senior in NationalTaiwanUniversity majoring in Forestry and Recourse Conservation. I also minor in Life Science (formally Botany) because its various interesting courses. The learning load was quite large, I still tried hard to keep a balance between studying and extracurricular activities: I have maintained in the top 20 percent in my class, won one president’s award served as cadre members in biological, classical guitar music societies, and participated in service activities for autism children. Aside from these, I have won two literary awards in the primary and secondary schools since I love reading all sort of books. Thus I have an attempt to write my own absorbing works.

  Although I am the youngest in my family, I am not dependent consequently. Friends regard me as people with principle and responsibility, which is beyond my expectation at first, but they said that it’s quite discernible for my punctuality, academic performance and styles of behaviors. I owe these to my parents if I were so, because they always ask me to finish my own job and not to make troubles for others. Actually I was not qualified to be called independent until I got my first part-time job as a tutor during College. For the first time I arranged all the things all by myself. Moreover, My sister went to boarding school since I was little, so I have to learn how to get along with friends and myself delightedly. I like to reading and writing and I have m any hobbies such as collecting books, painting and watching the movies. I think that everyone should take his live seriously and cherish every minutes on the world. As a result, it is a pity that those who commit suicides are too weak to realize the good in life. It mat be hard and full of mean tricks, but I am really enjoyed in the process of overcoming the obstacles and completing the tasks.

  My school life is cheerful except for I should travel a long distance to schools in the downtown TaipeiCity. I was to there are many things can do such as reviewing vocabularies, thinking or just take times enjoying the since, if I really want to. During my last year in senior high school, I move to a church dorm, which is managed by a German priest and his wife. So I can spend no time on a long commute and get more sleep since the dorm is just one block away from my school. There are, however, some requests to live in the church, but I took attending religious exercises as interesting experience in life. Among the subjects I like language and Biology most. Especially English, I get the first pleasant contact though a teaching tape record as my 5 year-old-birthday present, we also have English class, but it is not until I reading my sister’s magazines that I realized there are many new ways and benefits in learning a new language. I really had a good time learning it and I also got good grades in exams and oral tests.

  As for my future, I plan to study oversea since I am 12 because of the great expectation aroused by the fascinatingdescriptions in many journals of students studying abroad. Consequently, I have been keeping watching for information of this aspect from friends, teachers and mass media. And then in the university I see a wealth of paragons and elites which even strengthen my determination to carry out my dream! In the forth year in NTU, I took the TOEFL and GRE tests and made applications for graduate schools in America. After I got my doctor's degree, I expect to stay and do postdoctoral work in the U.S. Then I shall go back to Taiwan and find a job in research institutes or companies. And I will get married and have children within the period if I met my Mr. Right, of course I will consider carefully and cherish this relationship in my whole life.

Many people drink a cup of coffee every morning. It becomes their daily hobbies. Drinking a moderate amount of caffeine probably won’t do you any harm. But drinking too much caffeine can have negative effects on your health. A great many people drink more than a cup of coffee a day. If you drink four to seven cups of coffee a day, it caffeine contains more than 500 to 600.

First, caffeine will make people feel excited and feel wakeful. If you drink too much, probably it will make you suffer from insomnia. Seriously, it also might lead irregular heartbeat nervousness. That would be very terrible. Second, if you use caffeine for a long time, the opportunity for those who makes people suffer from anxiety muscle, tremors, nausea or other gastrointestinal problems are more than people who do not drink too much coffee or tea.

There are some of caffeine in coffee, tea and Cola. People like to drink them very much. But, you must be careful and don’t drink too much, or disease will be coming.

Best of the semester - 3 - Discussing effect - 1

Acton is a small town in the Midwest. Stanley Manufacturing decided to open a large factory in Action. This will bring many people to the community. Some people are excited about the positive effects the new factory will have, and I have no exception. I think it is a good thing to Acton. First, the factory will bring more job opportunities in the Acton. The factory can provide many vacant positions for the locals, even appeal to foreigners, which can promote the economy of Acton. I consider that Singapore is a good example and good to Acton to imitate it. The place in Singapore is very small. But they rejected their natural environment. They set two property which the other country didn’t want to bring – a lot of casino and petrifaction property. In this century, people compete for a job and just hope to earn enough money to live. So there are a lot of potential things in Singapore. I hope the future of Acton will like Singapore. In this century, people compete to any job. Just hope can bring enough money to live. More jobs will bring more hopes.

Best of the semester - 2 - Express an opinion - 1

Is using nuclear power to solve the energy crisis a right thing? I don’t think so. In my opinion, nuclear power has a lot of danger of unsure factors. You can’t know when the danger will happen. I think the best example is The 2011 Tahoka earthquake. The earthquake led to Fukushima Nuclear Power Plants radiated divergence when the earthquake hit Japan, which made us face this problem. This problem led almost hundred people were infected to disease. According that, German resisted and opposed to use the Nuclear Power Plants. Of the people in German insist on dismantle the Nuclear Power Plants and never emerge from their dominion. After all, they have a lot of energy alternative which can use. In order to keep our earth from danger, we should not continue to destroy it. And if we put more emphasis on environmental protection, we can make this world more wonderful.

Discussing causes - 2 - revised

On December 19, Mr. Williams closed his shop. It's a pity for me because the music store which had caught my attention for a long time is my favorite store. There were several reasons which caused the close of the shop.
  The store is located next to the lobby on the ground floor of the Fairfax Apartment Building. First, according to the local data, we could know that the age of people in this apartment building lied in fifty-one to sixty year-old. However, the majority of CDs in this shop were hip-hop and rock which couldn’t appeal to people in this apartment. I think most people in apartment don’t like this. Second, according to the papers, we could know the amount of people who passed by the store. The shop was open in the period of one to five p.m. from Monday to Friday. Nevertheless, the stream of people usually existed from six to twelve p.m. In addition, there were two large music stores from a shopping center only for three miles away. Due to above-reasons, no wonder the business of the shop would be close in the end. Maybe next time I can provide Mr. Williams with several running methods. Anyone want to take a shop, must find enough information.

Best of the semester - 1 - I don't like rainy day

   A rainy day always makes me sad and blue. Moreover, it also makes me think an unforgettable thing.

   One day, my boyfriend who has been dating with me for three years ago. That day is really meaningful for both of us. To our disappointment, it was raining, so we suggested going to see a movie and going shopping at a mall. Everything was wonderful. After that, we went to a coffee shop to drink a cup of coffee. We talked to each other the secret in our mind. All of a sudden, he said he fall in love with my best friend, Lily. I can’t believe it. At that moment, I felt my heart broken. He said sorry again and again. I couldn’t think anything and ran out of the coffee shop. Because of the heavy rain, I couldn’t see the road. When I had no ideas and walk in the rain with no destination. A car suddenly came out on the road and almost hit me. When I thought that today would be my time of death. My boyfriend pushed me away and was stuck by a car. He died in this accident. He left me; however, he saved me at the end of his life. This thing really makes me feel worse.

   I don’t like rainy day because bad memory records this terrible thing in my mind. In short, I am appreciated that I still alive.

In our life, there has been a huge increase in population in our life over the past 150 years. Why did this thing happen? What kind of reason can make it become such a huge change? I think that it is a good question to be explained. I think there are a lot of questions we can be searched. First of all, I think there are so many advances in medicine and health care now that it has made a great difference from before. The century advancement makes medical treatment more progress, and cures more people. Second, the better sanitation also makes this world clear. The personal accomplishment is better than before. People would pick up the garbage on the ground and put into trash cans. Third, people improved farming methods that produce more corps which make us eat healthier. Last but not the least, fewer infants die and more people live longer. Because of people’s efforts, there are a lot of changes to different kinds of areas such as food and sanitation. As a result, we have to treasure all the things we have. And I am glad to see the changing of world.

     Many teenagers like to meet people through online dating sites. But is that a good way to meet people through online? I don’t think so. In my opinion, meeting people through online dating sites may result in danger. Generally speaking, the people you meet online are almost strangers. You must have to protect yourself from being exposing in danger if you makes up your mind to go out with he or she. First of all, you can inform your parents or friends of time and dating location. And you must tell the name of the stranger to others. Second, you can go to the dating with your friend. It is much safety. Last but not the least, if the person is a bad guy, you must have to run away, and go to the place where there are many people, and don't forget to call the police. After all, not to meeting any person through online dating sites is the best way.

As I was an elementary school student, I went to Wushantou Reservoir with my classmates. It was a class tour with my classmates and their parents. No sooner had everything was wonderful and awesome before one thing happened.

When we arrived there, we rode a bike to a place where should through a downhill. This downhill was long and precipitous. I was so scary that my bike was out of control. All of sudden, the speed of my bike was getting faster and faster. I was so nervous that I managed to brake my bike to avoid an accident, but it didn’t work. So I threw out the bike and fell on the road. All of my body got hurt and my knee was bleeding. The classmates were got shock who rode the bike beside me. However, after being wrapped, I still had a happy time in this travel.
